Mary Marshall Grimfaerie assassin Kane and his witch prepper partner Ariana are back to save the world or at least Houston from evil. This time they are on the trail of a sorcerer who has a way to allow demons to take over human victims. This time they run into two detectives who are also on the case trying to find out who is causing mayhem. They get a quick introduction to the world of magick. There is possibly some former interaction between Kane and one of the detectives which puts them at odds from time to time. In tracking down the villain, we are reintroduced to a couple of characters from the first novel who provide aid in this battle. We are also introduced to a new mythical creature, who I hope turns up in future works, seemingly as Kane's new pet. While the conflict was resolved, there were some loose ends around one of the detectives, that I hope will be addressed in future books.
Kane and Ariana fight a whole host of new magickal creatures and I think there is more grim humor (sorry not sorry) in this book than in book one which I enjoyed. Lots of action, lots of martial arts moves ( I almost think I could do some of the defensive things from the descriptions), lots of killings....
Another enjoyable read and I am on to Book 3.

Cindy Forsyth Nice progression in the series. Character development is going in a good direction. Definitely a good read.
